Fanaa-Film Review
This one sure was a bummer.
It started with that strange, special instinct that tells you "don't go for that film"
you ignore it, and think aamir is always worth watching, so lets go.
the fact that its a yashraj production is a bit off- putting because i'm not in a mood for switzerland and chiffon saris, but then there's Aamir-so we go.
Kajol and aamir together --the hype makes me want to give the film a skip and i would have if the NBA thingy hadn't happened.. now i HAD to go whether I wanted to or not.
The film....? god help us. The first half is a bit of fun, but mostly none.
Kajol continues to sport the bewildered expression that she made famous in Baazigar and
continues to wear it when she's blind and even after she regains her sight. I can't decide when I liked her best-blind or with sight.
How much can you flog a dead horse? endlessly, it would seem, which is why even though the film goes no where, good old aamir never gives up, he cries, laughs, and does everything else with great passion like he believes in it.
I wish the director and whoever wrote this pathetic excuse for a story felt the same way. One ends up feeling sad for Aamir and a bit for Kajol as well, also for Rishi Kapoor, he really deserves better.
The performances of the caste is adequate-though not spectacular, but its difficult to be spectacular in the business of dabbas.
The story is painful: A romantic plot with a terrorist in disguise and a blind girls turns into "eye of the needle" by ken follet. Without the integrity of course-because in the Hindi film everyone has to be good(or bad but only with a very good reason). So after much plodding, and chugging and snow, and lakes, and embroidered skirts and yamaha chases on snow and a blizzard and a kid who get irritating after a bit and satish shah and lara datta who appear in the film for 3.8 seconds each and shiney ahuja who comes in for longer(3.9 secs), though they really have no reason to be there the film is a dud. a complete nightmare-for the actors
As for us -it was just a bore. Dabba
If i could tell someone something it would be this-to all story writers, film makers, etc etc the conglo that is bollywood...
you know nothing about kashmir-don't get into it.
Not all terrorists are people who need to be taught a good lesson and brought onto the right side
India making a film about a kashmiri terrorist is like England making a film about Bhagat Singh and making him out to be a terrorist who needs to be taught a lesson.
You know nothing-so chill, or better still stick to switzerland and chiffon saris
crackpots..
the timing is crazy.. NBA, Aamir, --all for this stupid film.
Maybe the Gujjus are smarter than we think!!!!
